colleen Hudson's Story
Well I was a happy 16 1/2 yr. old D.E.student who worke at Sears and Roebuck , I was also the 1st. D.E. student to ever get haired by sears, I was having a wonderful outside the home life. My parents were not the nicest people to be around, so I spent as much time away from home as i could get by with. I was doing excellent in school, I had many friends girls and boys. Loved my work at Sears worked in payroll and commissions. I had a boyfriend that i thought we were going to be together for ever. My parents got Transfered to a small town in Michigan. My father worked for Owens , Illinois Glass Com. that used to be in New Orleans. 1 week after my 17th. B'Day they told me this information.Well to say it turned my world upset down. I had to quit my Job, and on the the 17th. of July my ffather and mother, and me and my beloved were in their car to take me to the Train Station to be sent to my older sisters (she lived in Ohio) while they packed up things to be sent to this town in Mich. those 2 days on that train I bawled all the way to Ohio, leaving my boyfriend , my school, my friends, my job I was just plain devastated!!!! I cound not remember ever being so sad and feeling all alone. All the way hoping and praying my friends would not for get me, and praying my boyfriend could be true to me for the long year I would be gone, as i had all plans to hop back on that train the very day I grauduated and head back home to New Orleans!! well life is strange , time passed and no letters or calls from my love. d me he was lonesome and had been dating! I was crushed. I was not even thinking of dating anyone all I could think about was hurring back to NO . and into my honey's arms. Didn't happen. a girl next to me in one of my classes asked if I could do her a big favor as her boy frieds brother was back from cal. and had lost touch with the girls he had known and would i be a blind date with him just this one night as we were going to double datte. This was Feb. 29th 1964 . He was very nice and we talked all the way through the movies. Had a nice time came home and thought no more of it. on that next monday i got a letter from him(we lived 60 miles apart) well for the next 5 days i came home from school to another letter from my blind date!! well that next week end he thumbed his way down and surprised me on that friday. he moved back to his home town where i was living and moved in with his grandparents. as time went on and still nothing from my boy friend back in N.O.so i continued to date him. my father got him a job at the Gllass plant there. we spent every day together , and on the night of my graduation he asked me to marry him, and gave me a beautiful engagement ring, 4 months later we were Married!! so the end of my story is now 48 yrs. later we are still happily married w/ 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren!!! I still think of my boyfriend back and living in Slidell, La. and wonder wht might have happened if he had been true to me, Guess I'll never know, as God had other plans for me!!!!
